The creation of the MCIP Ph.D. program in the context of an interdepartmental program exemplifies philosophies that are the underpinnings of the program. The IDP is designed so that the educational and research program that it provides can be highly responsive to the rapidly growing scientific knowledge and technological capacity of modern science. The IDP's design also optimizes the opportunities for synergism between molecular, cellular, and systemic physiologists by creating a coherent program in which all participants can contribute to achieving a more integrative knowledge of organismic function, rather than drawing artificial boundaries between disciplines. A dynamic group of over forty professors from the School of Medicine and the College of Letters and Science are participating in a single graduate degree program!
