Students are invited to apply for graduate training in the Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology IDP by direct application for admission to the IDP or through the UCLA ACCESS to Programs in Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences. Students admitted through ACCESS complete a year of graduate training that includes coursework in cellular and molecular biology and research ethics prior to admission to the IDP. Coursework completed in the ACCESS program applies toward the degree in the Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology IDP. In addition, STAR program participants will be admissable to the MCIP IDP if their research mentor is on the IDP training faculty.
Successful applicants to the Ph.D. program have usually received a bachelor's degree in a biological or physical science. Applicants are expected to have completed prior to matriculation, college coursework in mathematics through calculus, college physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry and biology. Courses in cell and molecular biology are recommended. If an applicant lacks preparation in a recommended course, but has an otherwise outstanding academic record, the applicant may be admitted to graduate status provided that the deficiencies are corrected.
